Absolutely adorable!!

It’s Saturday morning and I’m doing my lately usual coffee drinking while scouring the internet for fabulous vintage finds and I came across this beauty on Etsy:

Is this not one of the most adorably beautiful, vintage 50’s gowns you’ve ever seen??? The 40’s is usually my era of choice but this lovely garment makes me rethink that entirely!

It is for sale on at tabithatoes shop at www.etsy.com. I am utterly envious of the person who buys this and can squeeze themselves in to this gowns petite 24 inch waist.

Recent Vintage Purchases

I got these off ebay this week. I can’t wait for them to get here!

This is a 60’s-70’s era Olga nightgown that I intend to wear as a dress! I’m undecided on whether I’ll wear it as a Maxi dress or crop it to the knees, add some black trim to the bottom and wear it with boots. Probably the latter because I suspect it will be overwhelming on my frame as a Maxi dress but we’ll see!

This piece is not vintage but I’m super excited about it because it is what I’m going to wear for my upcoming Pin Up shoot! A local photographer tracked me down and needs all kinds of shots for his portfolio so we are doing a Pin Up shoot, Old Hollywood Glam shoot and probably a Bridal shoot as well. The first two ideas were mine, obviously. :)

Of course, I will post the final shots once I get them. I’ll be scouring thrift stores this weekend for some great props and such for the two vintage inspired shoots. Wish me luck!

The wonderful thing about wearing vintage

Posted in Wearing Vintage tagged , , , at 11:49 pm by vintagelovelies

There are many things I love about incorporating vintage pieces into your wardrobe. One of them is that, while they are not actually one of a kind, they basically are. The chances of going to a party and running into someone wearing the same stuff you are is basically nil. Ever been to a party where it appears as though everyone hit up the same department store in preparation for the big event? I have and I just prefer to not look like a walking Macy’s mannequin adorned with jewelry straight off the wall at Claires.

Not that there is anything wrong with wearing a dress from Macy’s, not at all. The point is that a strategically placed brooch or earrings that make your ex boyfriends new girlfriend go, “OMG, where did you get those?? I want them!” and no one will even notice you happen to be wearing the same dress they tried on 3 days ago.

One of my personal favorites is this brooch pinned on a plum dress. Next time I wear it I promise I’ll take pics and post them.

Mixing Vintage and Modern

I wore this a couple weeks ago to an outdoor evening event. The pink clutch is vintage Ande’ and I believe the necklace is vintage as well although I’m not certain about that. It is unsigned. The dress (not vintage) is Forever 21 and the shoes (also not vintage) are Amanda Smith.

I usually tend to carry older vintage clutches but I just couldn’t resist the pink and green combo in this outfit!

Welcome!

Posted in Ramblings about vintage tagged , , at 1:40 am by vintagelovelies

Welcome to my blog!

There is nothing quite like a beautiful vintage accessory. Each piece is a work of art, carefully designed and crafted to be as beautiful as the woman who once wore it.

Vintage jewelry is special as most of it is costume jewelry, designed only to be worn for one or two glamours nights out. Yet here we are, 40, 50, 60 years later, lucky that these pieces have survived. They are delicate, fragile and exquisite pieces of art that connect us to the generations of women who came before us. Pick up a piece and you are taken back to a time of high fashion and glamorous parties.

Whether you are buying to wear or collect, I hope you enjoy these vintage lovelies as much as I do!
